How did Strength Fitness Start?
I started Strength Fitness many years ago when I was living in Wilmington, NC. I was dealing with a back injury (bulged disc) and TRX was the only exercise that was strengthening my core enough to heal and prevent more injuries. I also had to replace my love of running with a new love of cycling/spin classes. I didn’t mind that too much because I love music and cardio and Spin classes were a great mix of the two!
At the time, I was a 5th grade school teacher and I decided to start a side business of teaching TRX classes in a physical therapist’s office after school and on the weekends. This was my plan to hold myself accountable to the workouts. Those are still some of my fondest memories of where I started.
Fast forward about 4 years from then, I moved to Ramona (July 2020), got married (2020) and had a 1.5 year old, Nicholas (2021) and a 6 month old, Daniel (2022). I was not working as a teacher anymore and truth be told, I was without any close friends and no one to share my love of fitness with like I did in Wilmington.
Strength Fitness was reborn! I secured space at our local MMA gym and since they only taught classes in the evenings, in the mornings, I ran 6 week challenges. With just 6 TRX straps I found off of Craigslist and my programs scribbled in my notebooks, I trained small groups in TRX and also created weekly challenges in order to change their lives holistically - with fitness, food and heathy habits. Each time a challenge ended, I was asked, “When will the next one start?” I did this for about 10 months until one day I saw space available that was big enough for more TRX straps and Spin bikes.
Strength Fitness grew! In August 2024, I opened the doors to what Ramona now knows as Strength Fitness, a strength and spin studio. I kept the TRX straps and added in Spin bikes! I have a team of amazing trainers who are just as passionate about fitness as I am and a group of inspiring members who have completely transformed their lives with our programs.
Ours is not the easy way, but it is the way that works and what will help you to become the stronger, fitter and more confident person. You won’t see videos up on a screen with an avatar to follow along with, pre-programmed workouts created for the masses or trainers who aren’t doing what they ask you to do - because those things do not help you. You won’t find smoothie bars, TV ads, retail shelves, or the latest “quick fix.” Those are what I call distractions from what really works.
Everything in this studio has one purpose, helping you get stronger, leaner and more energized.
What you will see are coaches on the floor working out alongside you to guide you and push through with you, customized workouts because we know your name, your goals, possible injuries. Members who come to Strength Fitness are coached to become better. If it doesn’t help you, we don’t waste time, energy or money on it. If it does help you, we will make sure that we are bringing in the best to do so!
