Need to get back into Fitness? Try these 3 Things
Summer is quickly coming to a close or at least the change from our regular routine will be ending. We can soon get back to our regular workout classes, regular meal schedules and everyone in the house will be back on a routine that reflects what our year mostly looks like.
Some of us can easily shift from one routine to another without missing a beat. Others might look up after that first day back at school and say to ourselves, “What happened these last 2 months?! I gained some weight and I am not happy with how I feel. How do I get back on track?”
This is a totally normal thing to have happen and although ideally we work to prevent this, when we find ourselves months (or maybe even YEARS) away from our regular healthy habits, we feel stuck and don’t know where to start to get back into it.
If you’ve completely fallen off track and want to get yourself back into the swing of things, here are 3 helpful tips in the DO THIS, NOT THAT format that I sometimes love!
DO NOT wait until you “feel ready” to start as that is a metric that’s incredibly hard to gauge. I can feel ready to workout at 8:30 at night when I am laying out my workout clothes, but at 4am when I am awake again looking at them, the “feeling ready” feelings are sometimes lost!
DO THIS: Pick a date and time and put it on your calendar. This can be for a 30 min walk, a workout class, a video to follow along with or whatever. Make an appointment to intentionally move for 30 minutes or more.
DO NOT waste time trying to make it perfect. Perfection is good to strive for, but don’t let it hinder you. The timing might not be perfect, but it can be doable (hello, 5am classes!), your sleep the night before might’ve been less than ideal, but that’s okay! You’re training yourself to get back into a routine, not waking up to go hard and hit new PRs.
DO THIS: Stick to your appointment for your next workout. Unless you are physically unable to do it, get it done!DO NOT think you are too far gone and there is no hope. Do not settle for less than what you want.
DO THIS: Acknowledge that you are unhappy in the fitness realm of life, make a promise to yourself to make a change then tell someone this is what you’re doing. Find a coach, a workout partner or post your new commitment on social media. Find a way to hold yourself accountable for the new routines and goals you are setting.
If you think having a coach would make this part easier (and it would!), please reach out to us and book a No Sweat Intro. It’s completely free and no obligation! We will sit down, go over your goals, outline a program and decide together if we’re a good fit. You can book that using this link.
