Two Years In. Lots of Lessons Learned.

2 Years ago this week, I took a month off from teaching TRX classes every Tues and Thurs at the Ramona MMA gym. I told my crew, meet me back on the mat, but this time, come to 1925 Main Street. It's going to be so fun!! And due to all the fun, we will end up looking great and feeling even better!

My "crew" got together and didn't break on their fitness. They met each other to do hikes and workout in Marci's garage while I spent every waking moment either tending to my babies or spending long nights in the gym. I wanted everything to be more than perfect (let's just say, that was stressful LOL!).

Then I opened the doors to Strength Fitness with an Open House and then a week off to go to Big Bear for a family vacation that was planned way before having a location of my own was even a consideration. Another fun way to stress myself out! We still had a lot of fun though! Daniel and Nicholas went fishing for the first time and I was happy explore the area with them and my husband.

On Monday, August 12, 2024 at 5am I taught my first Spin class with one member on the bike. She was amazing!! Kris Tally was my only other instructor before we eventually brought on everyone else. It was so fun and exciting!!

I've certainly learned a lot since that day and the value in that is important. Two years and I am still here. It's a short amount of time, but the reality is, more than 50% of small gym owners close by their second year. That is a win for me! Below are some more wins because whenever I learn something, I consider that a blessing!

I learned how incredibly thoughtful, caring and hardworking all of our instructors are as well as how much people want to be healthy, but just don't know where to start.

I also learned that everyone's journey to fitness and better health is different and I am grateful that I have the skills to not only recognize that fact but to also differentiate for it.

I learned that teaching Spin at 8:30 at night was just not a good idea.

I learned that I can ask people to bring their own mats!

I learned that my passion and care I have for each one of our members will show through and is valued. Thank you for being such amazing members. Without you guys, this would not even be possible!

I learned that I don't have to do it all alone. My team of instructors is a blessing beyond anything I could have imagined or asked for. They are more than what they offer during classes. They have been my support, reassurance and one of the best things about owning a gym. Seriously cannot even begin to think how I would do all of this without each one of them!

I learned that at the core of me, I am an instructor. I love to help people and I will take no credit because the credit isn't due to me. It's due to the ones who put in the work and wanted more for themselves. Every single member who saw the results they were working for are what makes this job so fun and rewarding. And after 2 years, I get to see all of it happen! That is one of the most special things I get to be a part of and I don't take that lightly.

I learned that there is always a way to level up my organization.

I learned that I created something I enjoy coming to everyday and miss when I am not there.

I learned that I did not have it all figured out 2 years ago and that it will take even longer to say that I do!

I learned that this job has helped teach and show my kids the value of being healthy and strong. They know what foods have protein and which have carbs and which have fat and how each of those macronutrients will affect their bodies. They're my boys!

I learned that owning a small business actually means something and I can bond with other small business owners over the struggles and the joys.

I learned that we don't just workout at our gym, we celebrate, support and encourage each other.

I learned that people will become friends when they come together (at our gym) to do something they are both passionate about.

I learned that this is only the beginning and I am looking forward to what's next!
